Name: Troy "Lang" Langston
Age: 28yrs
Gender: Male
Affiliation: Net Ops/ 08th Riot Battalion
Avatar: GunEagle
Appearance:
Personality: Ask 10 different people, and you'll get 10 different answers. He ranges from charming, charismatic and egocentric. He'll often unintentionally rub people the wrong way. Normally responding with a witty insult to anyone with hostile intentions. But with his deductive reasoning skills and his gift of the gab, he can motivate and guide people to accomplish any task at hand.
History: Troy Langston had it easy growing up. Raised in a condo located uptown, and one of the sons of an accomplished Net officer, Denise Langston. His mother pushed him to follow in her foot steps. But Troy had his eyes set on fame in the form Baseball. At 17 years old, Troy was considered to be the #1 high school pitcher in the nation. But things turned for the worst as his mother passed away due to an illness. Soon after, his older brother, Glen Langston, became an ARA (Avatars & Humans Rights Activists) to carry on his mother's ideals for Avatar/Human equality.
But the bad news kept coming in as a year later Glen was found dead on an assimilation chair, where it is said he was executed by a gun. It's believed Glen snuck in with a camera to grab evidence of avatars being illegally kidnapped and experimented on. The security guard that killed him said it was an accident, but he was still thrown in jail. Troy was devastated by the news... But something seemed off, almost as if he could smell the stink of this situation. It seemed out of character for Glen to do something dangerous like this. Not to mention the coroner said Glen suffered from severe head trauma, long before he was actually shot at. But the coroner suggested the trauma could have been caused during the conflict. The facility it's self was inspected and no traces of illegal activities were found.
On the verge of turning 19 years of age, Troy gave up on baseball. He turned to kickboxing to vent his frustration. But after having an epiphany, he realized joining the Net Police is the only way he can fill the void in his life. Troy knows there is more to his brother's death then what was told to him. Although he can't prove it, he can at least prevent something like this from ever happening again, or die trying. During his time as a Net cop, Troy used his mother's avatar, Javelin, a Guardsmen type from the V3 terminal era. By 26 years old, Troy became a Net Ops agent. He volunteered to work along side the Riot police, the division of the police that patrols the borders around the slums and serve as first responders when major conflicts and disasters strike. He's put on the 08th Riot Battalion with it's 5 officers, Ballard Stephenson, Kathy "Katt" Braddock, Lance Lowry, Reina Cortez and their commander, Sgt. Brooke Dawson.
A year has passed since joining the 08th Battalion. Troy is painfully aware of how out of date Javelin is. He's the only Net Ops agent that is using an avatar that is more than a decade old. Despite all the upgrades given to Javelin, he's still outclassed by the current state of the art avatars that they are commonly facing. Although he has sentimental attachment to it, he knows it's time to let go and get a new avatar. Troy then checks out all the stock avatars available at his Net Ops HQ. But he doesn't quite see one that he likes. All the stronger ones are nice, but he finds them to be too specific and lack versatility. Troy makes a complaint about the need for HQ to acquire better avatars. But getting these avatars are incredibly expensive.
Later on that night, during the final minutes of a quiet graveyard shift, a call comes in about a breaking and entering in a warehouse along the edge of downtown. Their orders are to subdue the intruder and secure the area until proper officials arrive. The battalion were puzzled as to why they were called, as this seems like a minor crime. The battalion arrives at the scene. There are no signs of force entry, but all the lights are on and no one is responding. As they make their way in, they hear loud crashing noises. Upon arriving to the noisy area, they see a man holding a keyboard and pressing buttons vigorously. Sgt. Dawson tells him to freeze. The man responds by activating mobile turrets.
After an intense half hour long fire fight, the 08th Battalion takes this man down. He has been hit, but he is alive. Troy bends down and handcuffs the man wearing a name tag that says Jonathan Irons. Sgt. Dawson orders the battalion to spread out and lockdown the warehouse until the officials arrive. As they move out, Troy stays put as he thinks this whole situation stinks. The same kind of stink he smelled around the death of his brother. While the rest of the battalion isn't around, Troy decides to find out what this place really is. There are tons of computers, but most of them were damaged during the fight. He finds a barely functioning computer with a cracked screen. Troy plugs in his terminal to hack it. While going through the programs, he finds a program with an offline avatar in it, named AKM#-01. After checking out it's specs, Troy is blown away by advanced this avatar is... Which only further proves his initial feeling about this situation was spot on. Troy can hear that the officials have arrived. Troy quickly transfers the avatar, and what little files he can find on to his terminal before they see him. Troy runs out of time and jacks out of the computer, and puts his terminal down the back of his pants.
As the officials stand before him, Troy notices their uniforms and recognizes them as the kind officers that work directly with the various mega corporations. He is thanked for his services and asked to leave. With out saying a word, Troy and the rest of the battalion leave. For the next couple of months Troy tries to activate his newly acquired avatar. But nothing seems to work, not to mention the files he downloaded made little sense to him. His only lead was Jonathan Irons, whom is being held in prison. After talking his way through the system, Troy is granted a single, off the books, visit. Troy finally meets him, but talking to Mr.Irons wasn't easy, as he wasn't complying seriously. But Troy has his ways. In exchange for offering information, Troy offers to make Mr.Irons stay less miserable. TV, games, outside food, the works. Irons finally gives in and tells him about AKM#-01 and that the issue with activating him could probably be fixed with an internal soft reboot. He also warns Troy that he is wasting his time, as Irons sees this avatar as a failed experiment.
Troy isn't quite tech savvy enough to know how to go about doing an internal soft reboot on avatars. He brings AKM#-01 to HQ for help from the only man he trusts. His supervisor, and his mother's former partner, Marty Sobol. Marty is something along the lines of a tech guru. Troy shows him AKM#-01 and asks if he can perform an internal reboot. Marty says it's not hard, but also says how odd this is. Troy practically begs and says he'll owe him one. Marty commences the reboot, which takes a few minutes. He checks out the avatar and tells Troy that this is one of the finest avatars he's seen in quite some time. He also says it's unregistered and could be dangerous. Troy understands, and says he just wants to find out what it has to say. But before he could finish speaking, AKM#-01 yells out his model number, scaring the life out of both Troy and Marty. Before AKM#-01 could finish stating it's various functions, it walks towards a ball and starts bouncing it. Marty isn't fond of how weird this avatar is; even suggesting a hard reboot is in order. But Troy was fascinated by him the way he is. Days later Troy registered the new avatar under the name "GunEagle", and the two spawned a new partnership.
