During the war against Abraxas, NPD Vice came into some valuable intel regarding a new ‘wonder drug’ that was being distributed in the Red Light District. It was known as ‘Evolve’, a cosmetic altering program that allowed anyone who installed it to alter their cosmetic code however they want, without any other outside influence.
Their research behind the Evolve program linked its altering capabilities to that of Lilith; internet television celebrity and romantically involved with deputized Virus ‘Viral’, who’s logic code had been overridden by Abraxas himself, and ‘willingly’ joined the virus army. It was also discovered that the program didn’t just have Lilith’s code included, there were also a ‘cocktail’ of corruptive viral strains within the program that functioned as a trojan horse program, and would take effect some time after installation, that would disfigure and deform the avatar into a viral amalgamation. We had intended to keep this discreet from Viral, but luck unfortunately was not on our side, as he stumbled upon the information and tried to break free of the Durandal mobile precinct.
Viral, despite his code being terminal, was able to break free of the antiviral stasis field and the virus suppressing rounds meant to contain viral avatars who went out of control. So in an attempt to preserve him, I was contacted as a frontline escort for the deteriorating virus, so that he could complete his personal mission of destroying the Evolve factory and keep Lilith’s code from becoming a weapon for Abraxas’ end goal of infecting the entire digital world.
During our travels through the Red Light District, we had encountered some residents of the district who were also interested in destroying the Evolve program. Those specific individuals have chosen to remain anonymous unless necessary for any law-related problems that they may need to address. I, as well as several other select officers are aware of their identities and their significance in our war efforts against the virus army, and will keep that information confidential unless absolutely necessary.
With this group’s help, we were able to locate the Evolve factory. In exchange for all of their efforts, Viral and myself had agreed to request space for uninfected refugees looking to flee the Red Light during the virus invasion, so that any who wanted to keep safe would remain so until the war was over, and all of the repairs to the district, and anywhere else affected by the war’s fallout, were completed.
The mission, overall, seemed to have gone off without too much difficulty, we reached the factory, and confronted the ones in charge of the manufacturing of Evolve; Massacre, a virus who the Brooklyn precinct is all too familiar with, and a new fighter, Schatten, a warrior sworn supposedly to Lilith’s personal army, known as the ‘Amazons’. Schatten, for reasons unknown, had his fixation on me, and knew quite a bit about my identity, and my underground disguise systems. It seems that the raid on the precinct had been to gather information about our entire precinct, and to gather intelligence on other precincts as well.
Unfortunately, I was separated from Viral during the confrontation with Schatten, so I am unaware to what happened during the fight between Massacre and himself. We had received backup shortly after confrontation, but my fight against Schatten was a 1-on-1 battle…or else. I kept the leader of the Amazons at bay, thanks to my latests upgrades, and during my bout, I had finished the fight potentially victorious, but the fight had been interrupted by one of Abraxas’ generals.
According to Baretta, and Mani4c, the officers leading the squad to assist Viral, he had been tossed into the Evolve code tank and supposedly broke apart, but had come back as some amorphous monstrosity that consumed Massacre and reformed his body, completely intact, and with no signs of code deterioration. Unfortunately, Viral has supposedly reverted to the old habits he had developed when he first came to existence inside of Mani4c so long ago, but I have my doubts about his true condition. No one can mentally revert so quickly, after coming close to destruction, and accepting one’s fate, and suddenly be healthy and willing to fight again. Only time will tell, but from what I understand, he is to be confined inside of a cell, until the war is over.
With this new intel in mind, as well as the recent developments with Viral, the R&D division is working on newer and more improved means of containing out of control viral threats. Hopefully this will help us get the leg up on this war, so we can come out victorious.
